UPDATE: Around 2 p.m. CHP stated that all northbound and southbound lanes on the I-5 have reopened.
Weather caused some serious traffic backup in Central California.
According to the California Highway Patrol all northbound and southbound lanes of Interstate 5 were completely closed Thursday morning in the Grapevine area of Kern County — near Tejon Pass — as snow blanketed the area.
This is the portion of I-5 which connects the Santa Clarita Valley with the San Joaquin Valley, and it’s vital to truckers.
Multiple accidents were reported in the area. Traffic was backed up for miles with no place to go.
Police say one person was killed in a crash on the northbound side of the freeway. No other details have been released on the accident.
