Central Unifed school bus gets stuck in the mud after driver tries to avoid hazard

A school bus from Central Unified School District got stuck in the mud after the driver tried to avoid a hazard in the road, the California Highway Patrol said Monday.

It happened just before 7 a.m.

The bus was traveling east on Kearny Boulevard near Valentine Avenue.

The bus driver thought she saw power lines in the road. As a precaution, she attempted to turn around going over the center median which was dirt.

With the rain, the dirt turned to mud, and the bus got stuck in the process.

There were around 25 to 30 students on board the bus at the time. They were later transfered to another bus.

There were no injuries reported.

The lines down in the road were utility lines. CHP said they believe wind broke a branch that fell into the lines causing them to break and hit the ground.
