Pro swim event taking place at Clovis North this week

The Clovis North Aquatics Center at Clovis North High School is getting ready to host some big names from the world of swimming.

The 5th and final stop of the TYR Pro Swim Series will take place there from Wednesday to Saturday of this week.

The event will include a bunch of Olympians, as well as eleven standout swimmers from the Clovis Swim Club.

Averee Preble, a recent Clovis High graduate, and Claire Tuggle, who just finished her freshman year at Clovis North, are two of those eleven who will be competing.

“It’s really cool,” said Preble.  “We get to have it right here in our backyard.”

“It’s so weird, cause my school is like the same place that Olympians are coming,” said Tuggle.

Preble will be swimming for Auburn next year, and is hoping to use the event as another positive step towards her goal of qualifying for next year’s Olympic Trials.

Tuggle is one of the top 14-year-old female swimmers in the country, and recently won a California High School state title in the 500-yard freestyle, in a time just off the state record.

This event is expected to attract approximately 250 elite swimmers from around the world, including members from our national team and past Olympic gold medalists.

Organizers expect former gold medalists Kelsi Dahlia, Leah Smith, Matt Grevers, and Townley Haas to compete in Clovis.

This is the final stop for a series that ran coast-to-coast, with prior stops in Knoxville, Tenn., Des Moines, Iowa, Richmond, Va. and Bloomington, Ind.

The four days of fun in Clovis gets underway on Wednesday night with the 800m freestyle races beginning at 5 p.m.

On Thursday, Friday and Saturday, there will be prelims at 9 a.m. each day in the morning, and finals beginning at 5 p.m. that night.

NBC Sports Network will broadcast the A finals on Thursday and Friday night, beginning at 5 p.m.

Tickets for each session of the event range from $10-$20, but students with a proper student I.D. can get in for only $5.
