(NBC) – Earvin “Magic” Johnson dropped a bombshell on Tuesday night ahead of the Los Angeles Lakers’ final game of the 2018-19 season when he suddenly announced that he’s stepping down as President of Basketball Operations for the Los Angeles Lakers, multiple outlets reported.

Johnson told reporters in an impromptu press conference that he has not told Lakers owner and president Jeanie Buss of his decision.

“I was happier when I wasn’t the president,” Johnson said according to multiple reporters present.

He added, “A monkey just went off my back.”
