Diamond ‘Dogs open 2019 with victory; Batesole earns 800th career win

FRESNO, Calif. — Despite the winning run coming to the plate in the top of the ninth for Utah Valley, the Diamond ‘Dogs held on for a 6-3 win over the Wolverines on Saturday afternoon at Bob Bennett Stadium to secure head coach Mike Batesole’s 800th career win.

Fresno State (1-0), who won both its 11th consecutive season and home opener on Saturday, was led at the plate in the game by senior second baseman Nolan Dempsey who matched his career-high with three hits finishing with a double and a pair of singles to go along with three RBIs.
