The Fresno State football team didn’t crack the preseason Top 25 poll released by the Associated Press on Monday.
The Bulldogs were one of three Mountain West teams to receive votes in the poll.
Fresno State would be tied with fellow conference member Utah State at No. 37 in the rankings, if you extended the rankings out to include every school that got a vote in the poll.
Just like in the Coaches Poll released at the end of July, no Mountain West school was ranked in the Top 25, but Boise State got the most votes of the three mountain west schools who got votes, and would be ranked No. 33 if you extended the rankings out.
Fresno State opens on the road at USC on August 31, and then hosts Minnesota at Bulldog Stadium the week after that.
Both those schools got fewer votes than the Bulldogs
The Trojans, who are coming off a 5-7 season in 2018, will enter this year unranked for the first time since 2001, and only got one vote in the preseason poll.
The Golden Gophers, who are coming off a 7-6 season, would be ranked No. 39 if the AP rankings were extended out.
