FRESNO, Calif. – One office, 12 employees, nearly 300 clients.
Since 1998, Whelan Financial has been open for business, providing wealth management services.
“We have clients that are from Hawai’i to New York City, but they are concentrated in the valley and mostly in Fresno,” says Vin Whelan. “Mostly professional people, but we also have farmers and manufacturers and the like.”
Vin Whelan has called Fresno ‘home’ since 1979. Originally from Massachusetts, he came to Fresno on a consulting arrangement and never left.
“I’m a big Fresno guy, I love it here,” he says. “I think the people really make Fresno a special place. They’re the nicest people on the planet, and I’ve been a lot of places.”
On Saturdays in the fall, the place for Vin Whelan is Bulldog Stadium.
“It’s the character that’s there,” he says. “And the importance that the coaching staff puts on bringing the right people there, and seeing the success there.
“Jeff Tedford talks about this. He is an amazing speaker. And if you get a chance to see him, you should do it.”
Whelan got that chance about a year ago, when Tedford visited Whelan Financial. It reinforced an already-strong connection.
“I think if you’re making a contribution to Fresno State, you’re making a contribution back to our community,” says Whelan. “Which is what Fresno State does, they educate people here. It’s a lifeblood here. And that whole cycle is important to me and why I get involved in contributing to Fresno State.”
