The Mountain West Conference announced its men’s basketball schedule Thursday for the 2019-2020 season and it included a couple interesting twists.
Because of major conventions and events in Las Vegas during the traditional week of the Mountain West Men’s Basketball Championship, the annual postseason tournament held at the Thomas & Mack Center will take place a week earlier than normal next season.
It will be held from Wednesday March 4 through Saturday March 7, 2020 next season, giving Mountain West teams at least a full week off before participating in other possible postseason tournaments (NCAA, CBI, etc.)
The new dates for the conference’s postseason tournament also means two regular season conference games will be played in early December next season.
In Fresno State’s case, that means the Bulldogs will host UNLV on Wednesday, December 4 at the Save Mart Center in its conference opener, and then visit Utah State later that week on Saturday, December 7.
Fresno State will play five Saturday conference games at the Save Mart Center as part of next season’s schedule, highlighted by a game against defending conference regular season co-champion and defending conference tournament champion Utah State on February 15.
The 18-game Mountain West schedule means Fresno State will play home and away games against eight other teams in the conference, but only one game against two other opponents.
Fresno State will not travel to play at Boise State this season and won’t host Nevada as part of that rotational league schedule.
The dates of these games are not completely set in stone yet. National television partners, CBS Sports Network and ESPN, will shift some games across the league from Wednesday to Tuesday and from Saturday to Sunday for broadcast purposes. All national television selections and date changes are expected to be completed by late August.
Below is Fresno State’s full conference schedule as it stands now.
