World champion hot dog eater Joey Chestnut is coming to Fresno to take on — tacos.
The Fresno Grizzlies and their alter-ego, the Fresno Tacos, announced Thursday the addition to the World Taco Eating Championship on July 29.
Chestnut, who has won the Nathan’s Hot Dog Eating Contest nine times since 2007, set a new world record consuming 72 hot dogs and buns at this year’s event. Matt Stonie, Major League Eating’s #2 ranked in the world, will also compete in the event.
The same governing body which oversees the Nathan’s Hot Dog Eating Contest at Coney Island in Brooklyn, New York each July 4 is bringing the Taco Eating World Championship to the Taco Capital of the World, Fresno, CA. Many of the most accomplished competitive eaters in the country will compete for the crown, alongside a local amateur who will qualify during night one on Friday.
The World Taco Eating Championship will begin at 6 p.m. If you’re interested in competing in the amateur qualifier for the Taco Eating World Championship, please contact Ray Ortiz at firstname.lastname@example.org — or in the Fresno Tacos front office.
