The shooting happened just after 2 Tuesday morning at a home in the 9000 block of Iona Avenue.
29-year-old Rowdy Paulo was arrested for attempted homicide, assault with a deadly weapon and shooting a firearm at an inhabited dwelling.
Family members say a shot was fired from outside the home.
“This is actually the bullet hole,” said the victim’s brother, Bryan Estrada. “It came in through here and it went all the way inside and hit him in the head and then hit the other wall on the other side.”
5-year-old Brandon Estrada better known as Chino is recovering from a traumatic morning.
Family tell us Chino and his 11-year-old brother were playing in the living room.
“I guess my 11-year-old brother heard like a pop, pop,” Bryan said.
Older siblings, Bryan and Ana were asleep.
“I just heard everybody screaming and I got up and I checked and he was bleeding,” Bryan said.
“Chino got shot. Chino got shot,” Ana added.
One shot was fired through the family home of 3 years striking Chino.
“It hit him right here. in the back of his skull and some of his bones were broken,” Bryan said.
Family members drove him to the hospital. He then went through surgery.
“My brother, he’s doing good right now. He’s recovering,” Ana said.
The Estrada family went outside after the shooting but didn’t see anyone.
“There’s a lot of questions that we have,” Ana said.
They’re now on heightened alert.
“You’re not safe anywhere,” Bryan said.
“We’re just shocked right now because our home is supposed to be the safest place and now our home, it can’t even be the safest place,” Ana added.
The Sheriff’s Office says that this type of incident is rare for this area.
