Visalia police officer assaulted

Visalia police have arrested five people they say attacked officers Thursday night.

Police say two officers assigned to the Special Enforcement Unit saw five people drinking alcohol in front of a house on the 900 block of East Cypress.  The officers tried to get the group to go inside the house, but police say Andres Ramos pushed an officer, Police say the officer handcuffed Ramos but the four other people attacked the officers and tried to free Ramos. Other officers were called and the five were taken to to the Tulare County jail. They face charges including attempted lynching, resisting arrest with violence, and assaulting officers.  Police say there were no reported injuries to either the arrested suspects or the officers.
