A 41-year-old man was arrested Wednesday in Visalia on suspicion of assaulting a police officer with a deadly weapon.

Just after 6 p.m., suspect, Israel Suarez, was reportedly in the driveway of a home in the 1800 block of West Walnut Avenue with two knives, according to a Visalia Police Department news release.

When officers arrived, they located Suarez in possession of the weapons, police say, adding that he had been drinking alcohol.

Officers asked Suarez to drop his weapons or they’d have to shoot him, the news release says.

He then threw one of the knives to the ground, but started to step toward officers with the second knife.

A Taser was used on him, police say, and he dropped the knife.

Suarez was booked into the Tulare County Pre-Trial facility on suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon and resisting with force or violence.

No officers were injured.
