Visalia man attacks Grubhub delivery driver with a knife

News

A food delivery driver is recovering after he was stabbed in the arm by an angry customer.

The reported stabbing happened on the 4700 block of W. School Avenue in Visalia on Sunday.

According to Visalia Police, Brian Hughes, 32, became angry when he received the wrong food and pulled out a knife and attacked the Grubhub driver.

“He was upset with the order. He knocked the order out of the hands of the driver and than brandished the weapon and striking him on the arm,” Sergeant Gary Williams said.

Police said the driver did receive a slash in the left arm and he denied medical attention at the scene.

Williams said he was unaware if Hughes was under the influence of alcohol or drugs.

Police are asking drivers to be alert.

“Just be careful when making any deliveries. Make sure you know where you at,” he said.

JJ Macrae owns and operates Mr. Takeout and has been delivering food in Visalia for 20 years.

He said this hasn’t happened to him.

“I never heard of anybody getting stabbed or an attempted stabbing because of a wrong order. Wrong orders do happen but I haven’t have anybody get that upset,” Macrae said.

We did try to reach out to Grubhub for comment on the stabbing but our calls were not returned.

Hughes was booked into the Tulare County Sheriff’s Office on one count of assault with a deadly weapon.
