CHICAGO (WGN) — Chicago police said the gunman who shot an officer Saturday morning is the man wanted for shooting a woman while he was riding a bike in the Fulton River District.

The officer was on the 1900 block of West 65th Street around 8:40 a.m. Saturday when he was shot. He was reportedly hit in his lower body.

A SWAT team was on the scene Saturday morning at 65th Street and Damen Avenue after the shooting.

Police said the gunman fled the scene and should be considered armed and dangerous. Police spokesperson Anthony Guglielmi said the man, who he identified as 45-year-old Michael Blackman, is the suspected gunman in a shooting on the 200 block of North Milwaukee Avenue Wednesday.

The officer was taken to Advocate Christ Medical Center in critical condition, but has been stabilized. He was reportedly shot in his lower body.

Mayor Lori Lightfoot posted on Twitter asking Chicagoans to join her in prayer for the officer and his family.
