Two FUSD trustees want colleague Terry Slatic to resign or get recalled

Two Fresno Unified school board members are speaking out, exclusively to CBS47 about their colleague Terry Slatic.

Trustees Keshia Thomas and Veva Islas say Slatic has over stepped his boundaries as a school board trustee not once, but several times.

Islas says, “As a trustee I find his behavior really despicable. I don’t think he’s well suited for the position. I would hope that he would resign and if not I feel like our last resort is to call upon the voters of the Bullard High region to recall him.”

Both trustees gave examples of Slatics behavior, from grabbing a Bullard High student by his backpack, to having a confrontation with an U.S. Army recruiter on campus, to scolding cheerleaders over a social media ‘blackface incident’ involving other members of the squad.

Thomas says, “he ran because his son was bullied. He had his own agenda coming in. I thought that’s what would want him to do the best for kids, but it hasn’t.”

The trustees told CBS47 another Fresno Unified District report will soon be released which investigated Slatics encounter with fellow school district employees.

Thomas says, “It’s more of the same, him being him and feeling that hierarchy over everyone else. It’s really sad.”

Islas says, “He definitely has illusions of grandeur, someone who commands all the attention. I think it’s much easier to respect somebody than to fear somebody.”

CBS47 reached out to Slatic. He said by phone, “In this instance emotions are running high, and people need to check their facts.”

Slatic says, “The school district is broken. We are second to last in the nation. Out of all the trustees on the board no one is accessing the school district on it’s performance.”

Slatic says if the voters want him to go, he will go.
Right now, Slatic is not allowed on the Bullard campus without an escort.

School trustees say a censure will be next.
