Tulare man killed in 4 car collision near Cholame “Y” intersection

Two people are dead after a four car collision on State Route 46 in Cholame.

45-year-old Jesus Ontiveros of Tulare and 60-year-old Catherine Ann Fox of Paso Robles died during a collision this morning near the Y intersection of Highway 41 and State Route 46.

According to the CHP Fox was traveling eastbound on SR 46 when for unknown reasons she made an unsafe turn into the westbound lane.

She then side swiped a Nissan, occupied by Moises Hernandez of Avenal, causing his car to spin out of control and skid into the eastbound lane, colliding with a Chevy pickup.

CHP says Fox’s car and Ontiveros’ car then crashed head on. Six other people were inside Ontiveros’ Toyota minivan. They sustained major injuries and were taken to the hospital.

11 people in total were involved in the collision, eight were taken to the hospital.

39-year-old Paul Cardenassoto of Salinas walked away without any injuries

The interchange between the highways has been the site of several crashes, and was the spot were actor James Dean was killed in 1955.

Last month the California Transportation Commission approved $134 million for an overpass at the intersection.
