The three adults charged in the death of a 2-year-old are now facing charges of using a deadly weapon in the crime, the Tulare County District Attorney said Friday.

Edward Dias, 36, Shania Alamillo, 23, and Adriana Alamillo, 27, were all arrested after a 2-year-old was not breathing nor had a heartbeat upon arrival at Tulare Regional Medical Center on Sunday.

Each are now charged with murder, assault on a child causing death, two counts of conspiracy to commit the crime of torture, two counts of torture, and two counts of child abuse. Tulare County District Attorney Tim Ward said they’ve also been charged with a special allegation of the use of a deadly weapon and causing great bodily injury to a child under 5.

“Heinous crimes like these are why we created the Crimes against Children Unit in 2013. A crime against a child is a crime against our community,” Ward said.

Another 3-year-old was found with the adults and was taken into protective custody.
