Bei Bei will soon return to its native China as part of a breeding agreement with the country

WASHINGTON (KSEE/KGPE) – Giant panda Bei Bei celebrated his fourth birthday Thursday at the Smithsonian’s National Zoo in Washington with cheers and a panda-friendly frozen cake.

The birthday cake was created especially for the panda by the zoo’s nutritionists.

The next move for the panda is back to its native home in China due to a breeding agreement with the country, the zoo said. The process takes a considerable amount of time and effort to plan, involving other federal agencies and their counterparts in China.

There is no exact date for Bei Bei’s move but will occur in the coming months, the zoo said.
