Intense heat blanketed the Central Valley Friday. As the booths went up at the Old Town Clovis Farmers Market, so did the fans and the misters. Vendors made do with whatever shade they could find.
The organizers of the event say a few vendors didn’t show and crowds were sparse at first but grew as the sun went down.
“We have this canvas here for shade to try to keep it as cool as we can. Then we brought misters and fans to face the fruit so we can keep them as fresh as we can,” said Laura Geuvjehizian with CMC Farms.
The Clovis Fire Department had a booth and reminded people to stay safe during the heat.
“We are just encouraging our volunteers with the Clovis Emergency Response Team as well as anyone that comes by to stay hydrated stay cool get indoors if you begin to feel some exhaustion and just take care of yourself not overdo it,” said Clovis Fire Department Public Information Officer Chad Fitzgerald.
