The Tony Award-winning musical ‘Hamilton’ is heading to Fresno!
Fresno Lexus Broadway in Fresno announced ‘Hamilton’ will headline the 2020-2021 Broadway season.
“Fresno is ready to take our shot!” said City of Fresno Spokesperson Mark Standriff.
Standriff said for the days the show is at the Saroyan Theatre, downtown will be packed with fans from all over who will bring in tourism dollars.
“It’s really incredible you would take the hip hop experience, translate that into a story about the birth of our nation and make it so appealing, so compelling and dramatic,” said Standriff.
Ticket and show date information is not yet available but based on the musical’s prior success it’s likely going to sell out and cost a pretty penny.
“I’m going to start mowing a lot of lawns to see that show, I’m thinking seven to eight blocks,” said Clovis North High School Drama Student Ethan Marsh.
Marsh plans to go to ‘Hamilton’, in style.
“Oh, we’re talking the whole wig, the buttoned coat, everything. I might bring revolutionary soldiers as my friends with me, we’ll see,” said Marsh.
Theater professional and drama teacher Joel Abels said a field trip to ‘Hamilton’ may be in the works. He hopes the stop in Fresno will put the city on the map as a vital stop for more shows in the future.
If you’re a Broadway in Fresno subscriber for this year’s season, you will have first access to tickets when you renew for the 2020-2021 season.
