KINGS CANYON, California (KSEE/KGPE) – Democratic Congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez has paid a visit to Kings Canyon National Park.

Her presence in the Central Valley came as a surprise to many as no public announcement was made.

In a series of posts uploaded to Instagram on Thursday, the representative for New York’s 14th district can be seen horseback riding through the woods and taking pictures next to the tall trees.

Her posts included captions referencing the importance of nature and the importance of protecting it.

“Especially now with the threat of climate change, I think we could all do well to reflect and deepen our relationship with land and nature,” writes AOC.

“It can be hard, especially living in a city, but even planting a basil seed in an empty water bottle on your windowsill can be a radical act.”

On July 7th, Ocasio-Cortez posted on Twitter asking for suggestions for which U.S. National Parks to visit. Kings Canyon National Park was among the answers received.
