Toddler Dies From Self Inflicted Gunshot Wound

Lemoore police are investigating the death of a three-year-old girl who was found with a self inflicted gunshot wound.
Police got a call Saturday afternoon asking for medical assistance for a three year old girl.
“I heard an ambulance and stuff like that but nothing other than that”, says a neighbor Sandra Ordaz.
“The medical aid consisted of a three year old who had fallen and had head injuries,  when officers responded to the scene and when they arrived they found a three year old with a head injury as well as a gun located within close proximity to the child”, says detective Matthew Smith.
The toddler was rushed to the hospital where she died.
“If a child gained access to a loaded firearm, an adult screwed up somewhere”, says Jacob Belemjian owner of The Firing Line in Fresno. He says what happened is horrible, but that there are laws about how to keep guns safe and away from children.
Belemjian says, “it needs to be put away, if you have a concealed carry permit you’re more than welcome to carry it and I would encourage it but it needs to be within your control”.
Police say at the time the girl was the only one inside the bedroom and that the firearm was either on top of or inside the night stand.
“The family is broken up and it, the roommates are broken up about it, everyone involved was broken up about it, my heart and the Lemoore Police Department’s family, our hearts go out to them”, says detective Smith.
Neighbors say they feel bad for the family, but that this incident could have been prevented if the gun had been locked up.
“It’s a loss of their child and it really hurts, it hurts to know something like that even though I didn’t know the family and I’m so sorry for something like that to happen to them”, says Ordaz.
