They demand to meet with Nunes about immigration, healthcare and the travel ban

A group of Valley clergy men and women had the police called on them after they chanted their way inside the building where Congressman Devin Nunes has his Visalia office.

Demonstrators say they’ve been trying to talk to congressman about immigration and healthcare.

They say they feel his vote is always against their core values so they wanted to talk to him face to face to remind him who he represents.

As they rallied outside his office building a Dreamer spoke to the crowd about having DACA and how it’s helped her feel a part of society.

“My heart says I am American, my life says I am American, but the only thing that keeps me from being treated like one is a peace of paper,” said Reyna Castellanos, DACA Recipient.

Castellanos is a mother and business woman who has called America home for 31 years and now fears with DACA repealed her dream of becoming a citizen is dwindling away.

“Representative Nunes I pray as a father of three girls you can understand my desire to stay with my children in their home country,” said Castellanos.

Castellanos story is one they wanted the congressman to hear, so they marched inside the building to try and get into his office.

It took only minutes before someone called the police, and when officials arrived they asked them to leave.

Clergy men and women demonstrating left peacefully but said they were ready to get arrested for the cause.

“It’s kind of a response to the anger that’s built up rather it’s DACA, healthcare, the muslim ban so we are here because we believe its the right thing to do to advocate for our people,” said Father Art Gramaje, St. Anthony Claret Church.

“They ended the demonstration in prayer, although they didn’t get to talk to the Congressman because he is out of the country on official intel committee business, his Spokesperson did release this statement.

“This is a left-wing activist group with whom our office has had numerous, repeated discussions through email, letters, phone calls and in person visits. nevertheless they decided to stage a media stunt and disrput the other offices in our building in order to argue, ironically, that we’ve been unresponsive to them,” said Jack Langer, Spokesperson for the Congressman.

Gramaje says they’ll keep mobilizing until they get what they want.

“We believe that today we made a statement,” said Gramaje.
