Tuesday was a rough day for some residents and businesses in the area of Palm and Nees, as Police say a hit and run driver caused a power outage in the area.

Some businesses were reportedly without power for over 12 hours, with power only coming back late Tuesday afternoon. Some of the businesses affected are restaurants, which posed challenges, as they needed to take steps to keep food from going bad.

According to investigators, power was knocked out just after 2 A.M., when a suspected drunk driver plowed into a transformer. The driver, according to investigators, was driving an SUV at the time, and reportedly rammed a security vehicle before taking off.

Many restaurants were forced to close their doors for most of the day Tuesday, as crews with PG&E worked to restore power. Some, however, have reopened.

Business owners in the area said Tuesday this is not the first time someone has ran into the transformer, and knocked out power.

The suspect vehicle, identified as a black Chevrolet Tahoe, should have some damage to it. Anyone with information should call Crime Stoppers at 498-STOP.
