Suspect is arrested following a pursuit after police say suspect rams police car with stolen car

News

Clovis Police reported having spotted a stolen Honda Accord drive by the Police Department on Fifth Street just after midnight.

Officers said they followed the honda and attempted to apprehend it near Temperance and Bullard. The vehicle pulled over, but then, however, rammed a police car and took off. Police then chased the car for 8.5 miles east of Clovis and eventually ended up at Herndon and Sunnyside where they deployed spike strips which slowly deflated the vehicles tires.

The stolen car then crashed near Sunnyside and Herndon where the driver then took off on foot. Police said the suspect was quickly taken into custody as he tried to jump over a fence. During the arrest, the suspect was reported as being combative, and consequently a Clovis Police Officer suffered a minor injury.

The suspect, 41-year-old Jason Kirscher of Fresno, was arrested and booked into the Fresno County Jail.
Clovis police said he was charged with the following:
-Vehicle theft
-Assault with a deadly weapon against a peace officer
-Probation Violation
-Threatening a peace officer
-Evading a peace officer
