Fresno Police are still proactively searching for the man they believe shot a family in their own front yard — killing 52-year-old Roberto Ramos.
During their monthly Crime View meeting, police named Lavale Shawn Vean, 20, as one of the city’s most wanted criminals. Vean has a number of charges to his name, including armed robbery and burglary.
The shooting he’s accused of doing happened in October. Ramos, his wife Irma, and his 20-year-old son Jacob were shot at in their front yard around 1 p.m. The three were rushed to CRMC, where Ramos succumbed to his injuries.
Michelle Miller said the neighborhood definitely lost a helping hand when Ramos passed.
“[He] was just that neighborly person. He changes my light bulb if I needed it, let me borrow a ladder if I needed it,” said Miller.
During Crime View, Lt. Dave Madrigal said police may know his whereabouts.
“He’s got strong ties in Madera, some ties here in Fresno and he also has ties in Las Vegas,” Madrigal said. “Right now, we think that he is currently in Las Vegas.”
Police say a silver jeep SUV or a black Honda Civic could be involved in the shooting.
Since the beginning, police have said the Ramos family is not involved in gangs and the family wasn’t doing anything wrong when they got shot.
Madrigal said the victims did know each other, though.
“I won’t go into exactly what that connection is…but there is a strong connection there. We’ve been able to show that,” he said.
Vean also goes by the nickname “Fudge.” He is considered to be armed and dangerous, if you see him, contact police immediately.
