FRESNO, Calif. — Caught on surveillance video, a suspect is seen rifling through parked cars in a Northwest Fresno neighborhood.
“He was checking multiple vehicles to see if they were unlocked and did gain access,” said Lt. Bowlan, Fresno Police.
It happened in the early morning hours on tuesday near Herndon and Polke. When he finds an unlocked door, he is caught looking for items in the car to take. Police said he found a house key then tries to break in to a home nearby.
“It is a public awareness. While you are at home sleeping and thinking everything is ok there are people out there looking for opportunities,” said Bowlan.
As the suspect is jiggling the lock, the suspect glances up at the residents surveillance camera, looks around but keeps trying to work the lock. Police said luckily it turned out to be the wrong key.
“He really has some big cajones to try and do that around here,” said Mike Soto, resident.
Mike Soto lives in the neighborhood as says he does everything he can to keep his home secure.
“We make sure all our doors are locked and we have a good alarm system,” said Soto.
He said this is a good reminder to be on alert. His neighbor Timothy Cook agrees.
“When you are least expecting it, is when people seem to attack, and when the worst things happen,” said Timothy Cook, resident.
Now he is thinking about setting up extra precautions.
“We have a couple cameras so now it is going to push me to set up my alarm and be more cautious,” said Cook.
Police are asking if you have any information about this suspect, to call them.
