Suspect accused of hit and run death of Vice Principal Gavin Gladding released after posting bail

Suspect accused of the hit and run accident that killed Fort Washington Elementary School Vice Principal Gavin Gladding released from jail after posting bail. The Fresno Sheriff’s said the suspect identified as 18-year old Rogelio Alvarez posted bond and released just after 10:00 am on Saturday. His bail was set at $6,100.

The suspect identified as 18-year old Rogelio Alvarez.  CHP spokesman Sgt. Dave Salcido laid out the series of events that led up to the arrest.

According to Salcido the Clovis Police Department received a credible tip on the location of the vehicle involved in the incident, which turned out to be a midnight blue 2006 Chevy Silverado.  While officers were at the scene they got a phone call from the suspect’s attorney, Eddie Ruiz, who said his client would be surrendering himself to the CHP Friday night. Investigators say the vehicle was parked at the home of Alvarez’s parents. Alvarez could face multiple charges including vehicular manslaughter , felony hit and run , and driving without a license.
