Strathmore mother who police said killed 12-year-old son is charged with murder, could spend life behind bars

STRATHMORE, California.- Tulare County District Attorney Tim Ward charged 45-year-old Sherri Telnas with several felonies on Tuesday for allegedly drowning her 12-year-old son and attempting to drown her 7-year-old son.

Telnas was charged with murder, attempted murder, one count of gassing and one count of battery on a peace officer.

Telnas was supposed to make her first court appearance today but asked for it to be pushed back tomorrow. The judge denied bail.

“There are three felonies and the first charge,” said Assistant District Attorney David Alavezos. “The murder charge with lying in wait has a potential punishment of life without possibility or death. those are the only two options for special circumstance.”
