Shots fired during vigil for teens in Caruthers

FRESNO COUNTY, California - Shots were fired as dozens gathered for a vigil in Caruthers for two teens killed in a car crash.

The Fresno County Sheriff's Office says the drive-by shooting happened around 9:20 p.m. Monday near Elkhorn and Walnut street.

40 to 50 people were at the vigil when shots were fired; luckily no one was hit.

The sheriff's office says it is unclear if the shots were fired at the group or in the air. A motive for the shooting is not known, but it appears to be gang related.

Two teens died Sunday morning after their car crashed into a tree near Walnut and Elkhorn. They have been identified as Augustin Sanzon Flores, 19, and Marcos Gonzalez Silvestre, 19; both were from Riverdale.
