Shooting at AutoZone leaves one man dead, another hospitalized

One man is dead. Another hospitalized after a shooting in Northwest Fresno. All the information is preliminary but police say there may have been a gunfight in that parking lot and it appears the man who died opened fire first. The man who was with him is in stable condition at CRMC as investigators try to figure out how this happened.

Police investigated a Toyota Avalon on Monday afternoon, analyzing evidence in a double shooting that happened outside of AutoZone just before three.

“On our arrival we located two victims of a shooting. We immediately assisted EMS and getting them transported to area hospitals,” said Captain Burke Farrah.

One of the victims is now dead, identified by police as 20-year-old Deionte Wade. The other victim is in stable condition. Crime scene investigators and gang detectives interviewed people who witnessed the shooting.

“We’ll be corroborating that information with multiple video sources that are at the scene so we’ve got a lot of work to do to straighten all this out,” said Farrah.

Police say it appears the man who died opened fire first and another man who returned shots is on the loose. Meanwhile, authorities arrested two African American men they believe to also be connected to the shooting. Tiago Paim says he knows one of the men taken into custody and is shocked.

“We used to be pretty close in middle school. We played football together. I know he got into a little bit more trouble in high school but nothing I knew anything like this. A big shooting or anything,” said Paim.
