Sheriff’s Office investigating string of armed robberies

The Fresno County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a rash of armed robberies — three nearby stores hit just days apart.

The Caruthers Valero on Tahoe Avenue was hit around 11 p.m Nov 14. Just down the street Caruthers Food and Liquor was robbed in a similar fashion around 6 a.m. Nov 16 and the Cargo Mart in Laton was also held up around 10:15 a.m. Nov 18.

According to Tony Botti with the sheriff’s office, they’re looking at the possibility the same man robbed all three, but he also said the have not ruled out the possibility it’s a crew of several people.

“All of these cases seem to have the same MO, it’s a guy coming in dressed head to toe all covered up masked, carrying a handgun,” Botti said. He also said in the two videos that show the suspect holding a gun, he appears to be left handed.

“Looking at it seeing the way he behaves it’s quite possible that it is the same man,” Botti said.

“It was so scary. It was so scary,” said one of the Caruthers robbery victims who did not want to be identified.

She said the area is getting worse.

“Before everyone said that this is a safe town. But it’s not like that anymore. It’s dangerous for small businesses,” she said.

“Success breeds repetition,” Botti said. “In this case he’s going and getting lots of money each time. He’s going to continue to do it until he gets caught.”

Anyone with information about any of these cases is asked to contact Detective Eric Penland at (559) 600-8171, eric.penland@fresnosheriff.org or Detective Lindsay Milchovich at (559) 600-8174, Lindsay.Milchovich2@fresnosheriff.org
