On Tuesday, several organizations handed out turkeys, along with all the trimmings, to those who might not otherwise be able to afford it.
Catholic Charities, along with our sister station held a Turkey Drive in our parking lot.
Volunteers spent all day collecting turkeys and donations to help out those in need here in our community, this holiday season.
With Thanksgiving only two days away, other organizations came together to help out many more as well.
Box after box filled with turkeys and grocery bags stuffed with all the Thanksgiving trimmings, more than 600 meal kits were given away to help our neighbors in need.
“Oh I’m just grateful to be able to get a free turkey,” said Diane Corpeno, a Fresno resident.
It’s all part of the 2nd Annual District 4 Operation Gobble event.
Fresno Mayor Lee Brand, city councilmember Paul Caprioglio, along with several sponsors and volunteers, came together to bring some relief this holiday season.
“There’s a lot of generosity here and this is all about giving everybody a happier Thanksgiving,” Brand said.
Angelica Reynaga is just one of the many who says now she and her family will thanks to this event.
As mother of four Reynaga said the holidays can be stressful, “It’s a lot of help being a single mother, so it’s a lot of help.”
She said if it wasn’t for the help her children would not have the chance to experience a traditional holiday feast, “I’m just trying to do the best I can for, for the kids.”
Meanwhile across town, the Fresno Rescue Mission held it’s annual Thanksgiving lunch at their new temporary building.
“Today is a special day because it is our Thanksgiving celebration,” said Matt Dildine with the Fresno Rescue Mission.
He said no matter rich or poor everyone wants to enjoy turkey on Thanksgiving.
“Everybody wants those normal things and so today for us this is just part of what we’re doing, trying to provide normalcy to our community,” Dildine said.
Catholic Charities is just one of the many helping out families in need, here in the Valley.
On Wednesday, they will hand out meal kits to families at their Fresno location.
