Section of Kings River reopens for recreation

KINGS COUNTY, California – A section of the Kings River reopened on Tuesday, the county announced.

The Kings County Board of Supervisors suspended their May 21 proclamation closing the Kings River to recreation, the county said. By suspending the proclamation, the Kings River, as it runs through Kings County, is open for recreation.

The Kings River in Fresno County remains closed in Fresno County.

On Monday, Fresno County said there were no immediate plans to reopen the river based upon the latest information from the Army Corps of Engineers, which controls water releases at Pine Flat Dam.

Pine Flat Lake is currently close to 95% capacity. With increasing temperatures forecast for later this week, more snowmelt is expected to fill the lake, the Fresno County Sheriff’s Office said.
