The Fresno County Department of Social Services (DSS) is warning people about a text message scam targeting its clients.

People have reported receiving a text message prompting them to call regarding CalWORKs — a public assistance program that provides cash aid and services to eligible families that have kids in the home.

When calling the number, an automated system prompts them to enter personal information such as EBT card number, PIN, date of birth, and Social Security Number.

The text messages are not being sent by DSS.

If you receive a suspicious text message or phone call, do not give out your personal or case information. Instead, contact DSS at 1 (855) 832-8082.

Anyone who has already provided personal information is encouraged to file a police report and to contact DSS.
