U.S. Olympic swimmer Ryan Lochte issued an apology on Friday, as the controversy surrounding his claims of being robbed in Rio de Janeiro continues.
Lochte, 32, posted the statement on his verified Instagram account.

Lochte’s claims that he and three other U.S. swimmers were robbed at gunpoint in Rio was cast into doubt, after surveillance video from a gas station were released by Brazilian authorities.
According to police, at least one of the athletes allegedly vandalized the station, and Lochte’s claims have sparked an international controversy in recent days.
On Friday, it was reported the the teammates who were with Lochte that night agreed to paying nearly $11,000 to a Brazilian charity so that they could return to the U.S.
