Efren Gallardo has only had his 1994 Cadillac Fleetwood for four years, but the car has some history to it.
“The murals were done by Alberto Herrera. He just did ‘Double Trouble’ which was Lowrider of the year. This was his very first car that he did.”
If you do an internet search on Herrera, you’ll see how respected he is in the lowrider community. His work was all over the Las Vegas Super Show.
Unfortunately the Cadillac had a crack and some dents that needed repair.
So another artist, Steve Contreras, came in and re-did the mural, adding a few touches to the hood.
“He’s an old school muralist here in Fresno. You give him an idea and just let his mind run free and give him an idea of the theme that you want.”
“He did it as close as he could to Alberto’s work. He does it all free hand.”
Efren is honored to have the work of two well respected artists on his car. He’s also put in some new ideas of his own.
“I added the chrome undercarriage. I did the gold wheels. I’m working on adding some more gold. I’ve done all the gold accents. I got some other stuff in progress that I want to work on.”
Efren and his wife Valerie met twenty five years ago cruising Kings Canyon. They still enjoy cruising and like the scene on the Sunday Fulton Cruises.
“I’ve been coming out here since it first started. I’m glad that lowriding is back. We needed it so I’m glad the city gave us an opportunity to do this.”
