Protestors demand change after 30th horse death at Santa Anita race track

News

In Arcadia, demonstrators were outside the Santa Anita racetrack Sunday, protesting the latest horse death.

A horse named “American Currency” suffered a severe leg injury Saturday. This was the 30th horse death since December 26. Santa Anita says they’re making changes to reduce the number of injuries and deaths.

Trainer Jerry Hollendorfer was banned from Santa Anita after a fourth horse died in his care. Sunday’s protest was organized by a group called Horseracing Wrongs – they say reform is not enough and they’re calling for horse-racing to be banned altogether.
