An effort is underway to legalize the use of psychedelic mushrooms in California.

Secretary of State Alex Padilla says supporters of the measure can start collecting petition signatures.

The measure proposes to decriminalize the use, possession and sale of  hallucinogenic mushrooms for people 21 and under.

Proponents of the measure must collect more than 365,000 signatures of registered voters in order to go on the ballot. If enough signatures are collected, Californians will vote on the measure next year.
