CLOVIS, Calif. — Professional athletes from the wrestling, football and surfing communities are wrapping their arms around 13 year old Makai Lloren.
“You never know who you have as friends until they are needed in a time of despair,” said Dubin Lloren, Makai’s father.
This after the teen injured his C6 and C7 vertebrea, leaving him paralyzed from the chest down after an accident at a trampoline park last week.
“He has no feeling below his chest and no movement in hands or legs, he can’t sit up or hold himself up,” said Lloren.
Makai is a wrestler at Alta Sierra Intermediate following in his father’s and older brothers footsteps but now he is relearning how to use his body…
“Today is the first time he actually sat up in bed,” said Lloren.
The messages from champion wrestler Kyle Snyder and featherweight Champion Max Holloway are getting him through the tough days.
“He is just floored by all the attention he is getting. For a 13 year old it puts a smile on his face,” said Lloren.
Makai also got special message from Eric Legrand, a former Rutgers football player who was paralyzed back in 2010 after making a tackle. He is now there for others fighting for their recover too.
“I know what you are going through right now and there are some tough times, I know that, but i want you to lean on your support system and family,” said Legrand.
Now Makai and his family are using these messages as a reminder to keep on fighting just like he does on the mat.
Makai’s school is also selling T-Shirts for his recovery efforts. 100% of the efforts are going towards his medical bills.
If you want to purchase a T-shirt they are 15 dollars and you can get them at Alta Sierra Intermediate School in Clovis. Their number is (559) 327-3500.
