President Trump will tour the areas damaged by wildfires on Saturday. He plans to visit firefighters who have worked tirelessly as well as give comfort to the victims who have lost everything they own.
California Governor Jerry Brown and Governor Elect Gavin Newsom will join him.
In a tweet, Governor Jerry Brown said:
“We welcome the President’s visit to California and are grateful to the quick response to our aid requests.”
President Trump Responded. “Look forward to joining you and Gavin Newsom tomorrow in California.”
Our local representatives are also looking forward to the visit.
“I welcome the president to visiting California always,” said Jim Costa, Congressman for California’s 20th Congressional district.
“He can comfort the families and talk to some of them and encourage them,” said Fred Vanderhoof, Chairman of the Fresno County Republican Party.
But last week the President had a different tune. President Trump criticized the state’s management of forest growth and debris in a tweet.
Trump said “Billions of dollars are given each year, with so many lives lost all because of gross mismanagement of the forests. Remedy now or no more fed payments.”
“It was very condescending and inappropriate with the loss of lives,” said Costa.
“Maybe he would have waited a few days or a little bit longer,” said Vanderhoof.
Chair of the Fresno County Republican Party, Fred Vanderhoof agrees with the message.
“I don’t think we have enough controlled burns and they need to do a much better job,” said Vanderhoof.
