LAS VEGAS (KLAS) – Fourteen-year-old Gage Haynes has been fighting cancer since he was 6 months old.
According to his mother Stacey Shavinsky, Haynes takes eight Ryedapt pills a day.
“I have Systemic Mastocytosis. It’s a rare form of cancer and its just been happening my whole life so i’m used to it. Now, we’ve finally found a way to help it. My whole life there’s really been nothing,” said Haynes.
Since he was a baby, Haynes has been in and out of the hospital.
“I always tell him that this is our journey. We are on this road for a reason,” said Shavinsky.
Every day is a constant battle and Thursday proved no different.
Around 1 p.m., a man with an orange in one hand and a soda can in the other, nonchalantly stole two packages from Stacey Shavinsky’s front door on Mill Canyon Drive.
“Once I realized that it was my sons medication, then I got upset,” she said. “You’re not just taking pants or a shirt, you’re taking something that’s keeping someone alive.”
Haynes’ chemotherapy medicine was stolen within four minutes.
“I worked really hard to try and get him that. I did financial assistance because it costs $40,000 a month because it’s not FDA approved for anyone under 18,” said Shavinsky.
Shavinky says her family doesn’t want the attention. They just want back what’s rightfully theirs. If someome knows the person in the video, they’re asking that you turn them in.
“It really helps me out a lot. I would feel a lot better, so I can go to school, get good grades, get a job, so just please return it,” said Haynes.
Shavinsky is working with a pharmaceutical company to get assistance.
