Freshman congressman TJ Cox is responding to a complaint filed to the Office of Congressional Ethics, questioning if he mislead voters.

The complaint was filed on May 10. It was submitted by six Kings County residents.

One of them is Cody Bradley who is the vice chair of the Kings County Republican Central Committee. The complaint says congressman Cox concealed information on his financial report in an attempt to mislead voters.

It cites five businesses that were not disclosed, one of them in Canada.

The filing of a complaint does not automatically trigger an investigation. That decision is up to the ethics board.

In a statement to KSEE 24, Cox’s office says:

He is in the process of ensuring that all of his disclosure paperwork accurately reflects those past efforts and is in full compliance. It is unfortunate that a disgruntled, partisan staffer involved in the losing campaign of the last election has filed a political, frivolous, baseless complaint, out of bitterness.

Cox has filed an extension for his financial disclosure report. It’s standard for many elected officials to do just that.

The deadline for the full financial report is Aug. 13, and we will continue to follow this story as it develops.
