Buttigieg warns Fresno Dems: ‘Trump could win a second term’

Politics

Pete Buttigieg warned Democrats not to assume traditional experience is what’s needed to defeat President Donald Trump in 2020.

The South Bend mayor told Democrats in Fresno on Monday that Trump could win a second term if their party appears to be representing “normal.”

And Buttigieg alluded to the backgrounds of former Vice President Joe Biden and his rivals who serve in Congress.

He says the party should avoid a nominee who’s been “soaking in Washington for a long time.”

Trump could win if Democrats look like they represent the system, going back to normal, he said.

“The truth is we’ve got to face the fact that this president could absolutely win again. He’s unpopular. He deserves to be unpopular. But he can win again,” Buttigieg told the Fresno crowd. “And here’s how I think that could happen. I think it happens if we look like we represent the system. I think it happens if we look like we represent going back to normal.”
