FRESNO, California.- Around 11 a.m. on Tuesday a woman called authorities to report a body in the canal near Millbrook and Clinton.

The Fresno Fire Department Rescue Team spent about an hour retrieving the body from the canal. Lieutenant Mark Hudson said it appears the body was there for quite some time.

“That body appeared to be in the water for several, a long time,” said Hudson. “We believe that somehow the body got into the canal and when it drowned, a passerby saw the person in the canal and notified us.”

The Fresno Police Department, Fresno Fire Department and Homicide Unit all responded to Millbrook and Clinton.

“At this point, when the body was removed our detectives did not see any signs of trauma,” said Hudson.

The body was pulled from the canal around noon, something Hudson said was not easy.

“It was difficult and again this body appeared to be in there some time,” said Hudson.

The case is still under investigation. The name, age, and race of the man have not been released.

This is a developing story. More updates will be posted when available.
