Police standoff underway at Fresno apartment complex

News

UPDATE:  Around 8p.m. the man surrendered and was taken into custody.

ORIGINAL STORY: Authorities have surrounded an apartment complex in Fresno.

More than a dozen officers are on scene at the Sandstone complex at Jensen and Elm in Fresno.

Police say they came to the apartment to arrest a suspect on a warrant, but he refused to come out.

When we first arrived on scene a boy who says he lives in the apartment told us his younger brother, sister and 7 month old baby sister were inside the apartment with his stepdad.

All of those kids have been safely removed from the apartment, they are unharmed.

The suspect remains inside, police are trying to get him to safely surrender.

Neighbors say the standoff began around 3p.m. They tell us they heard police yell “put down the knife”, and heard 20 rounds of bean bags being fired and a taser being used.

This is a very active scene.

Residents in the area have been evacuated for their safety. No one is allowed into the complex at this time.
