Madera Police are looking for the driver who struck and killed a pedestrian with their truck.
According to police, the deadly hit-and-run collision happened on May 12 just after midnight, the victim, Rutilio Reyes, 69, from Madera was walking in the cross walk when he was hit.
Sargent Mark Trukki said Reyes was attempted to cross D Street, crossing over to Cleveland when he was struck by a truck, which fled the scene west on Cleveland Avenue.
On Thursday, Madera Police released images of the truck involved, the suspects’ vehicle is described as a dark blue or grey Chevy Silverado or GMC Sierra.
Trukki said police believe the truck might have some damage.
“Based on some of the debris we found on scene, we expect it to have some grill damage to the bumper and as well probably the hood we would imagine,” Trukki said.
Marcos Reyes spoke to Your Central Valley over the phone, he said his grandfather was a hard worker who came to the U.S. for a better life.
Reyes said the family is mourning the loss of Rutilio, who was only a few block away from his home when he was killed.
Yolanda Villalpando lives near the crash scene, she now is making sure her kids are safe when crossing this busy intersection.
“We don’t let them go on their own, before we did after this happened, I told my sister let’s be more cautious, they can be hit especially because they’re smaller,” she said.
If you recognize the truck or have any information, you’re asked to contact Madera Police Department at 559-675-4243
