Police: Possible human remains found in backyard in Bakersfield

UPDATE (5:40 p.m.): Bakersfield police tells 17’s Olivia LaVoice, a body was found buried in the backyard of a home in Southwest Bakersfield and that the body is not believed to have been there for a long time.

Right now it is being treated as a suspicious death.

The coroner’s office will determine the cause and manner of death.

Police say there no arrests have been made.

Bakersfield police remain on scene in Southwest Bakersfield involving possible human remains found in a backyard.

Officers are in the 6200 block of Hathaway Avenue, just north of Taft Highway. 

Police were called at around 7:30 a.m. for suspicious circumstances involving someone finding what could be human remains. 

Investigators have not determined if what was found in the backyard of a home were human remains, however. 

It is still unclear how the discovery was made or who made the 911 call.

Investigators will remain on scene into the evening.
