Police say a suspect is in custody following the fatal shooting of a Texas Tech campus police officer.

University officials say the campus police found evidence of drugs and drug paraphernalia while conducting a student welfare check Monday evening.

According to a campus spokesman the officers then brought the student, 19-year-old Hollis Daniels,  to the police station for standard debriefing.

The spokesman says that is when Daniels allegedly pulled out a gun and shot the officer in the head… killing him.

Officials say Daniels then fled on foot… but was later captured.

The school was placed on lockdown, but that lockdown has been removed.
