A Fresno business owner spoke out after the latest in a never ending string of crimes hitting his store.
Police posted a video to social media asking for help identifying a robbery suspect. They said the man was trying to steal merchandise from Andre’s Liquor in Central Fresno, then threw a beer and pulled a knife on the clerk before eventually leaving.
The owner, who was the one behind the counter, did not want to be identified, but said this is the second time in two weeks the suspect has stolen from him.
He also said he’s been assaulted, the lock on his door is cut monthly and recently someone started a fire outside his shop.
This most current incident happened around 6 p.m. on July 22. According to police, the suspect walked into the store, grabbed a three pack of beer and asked the clerk to grab him three packs of cigarettes.
“Camel Crush let me get three,” he’s heard on surveillance saying.
The man tried to grab the items when they were rung up.
“I put it in the bag and he grabbed the bag and tried to run,” the clerk said. The employee then grabbed a liquor bottle, jumped over the counter and attempted to stop the man from leaving.
“I grabbed the bottle. I stood outside, I said “This is the line. If you cross the line, you can leave my things or pay me,'” he said.
The thief is then seen throwing a beer in the employees face, before pulling a knife, which ended the exchange.
Employees said unfortunately these incidents happen all the time.
Another video, taken just days earlier, caught another crime. A customer’s bike was snatched in an instant after he ran in the store for a moment.
More store surveillance from earlier showed a man taking charity donations from right off the counter.
The owner said the crime is constant, but sometimes it ends in an arrest. He hopes this is one of those cases.
“If people see his face on the news please make an arrest. He’s dangerous for the public,” he said.
